Fall Into Reading:
The Best Books of Fall 2015
by Jennifer Ridgway
This fall is an embarrassment of riches for any reader. Trying to pick books to highlight was one of the hardest assignments I have had — there are just so. many. good. books! That being said, these are some of the books that I can’t wait to crack open. Here’s to a fall filled with plenty of time to read and lots of good books on the shelf!
-
For an inside view of old money:
-
Everybody Rise
With comparisons to Bonfire of the Vanities and Edith Wharton, Clifford’s debut about a young woman trying to wedge her way into NYC’s upper echelon has me curious. [August 18]
-
For those who want to own their stories:
-
Rising Strong
Available from:Brené Brown really broke into the scene with her TEDx talk (if you haven’t watched it, please go directly there after finishing this). Rising Strong is the next piece of the puzzle after her bestselling book Daring Greatly. A guide to living life (and parenting) in a wholehearted way. [August 25]

For those looking to laugh (or commiserate):
-
Why Not Me?
Available from:The star of “The Office” and “The Mindy Project” is back with her second book of essays. Funny, insightful, and personal, Kaling shares more of her experiences growing up and her efforts to find happiness while navigating Hollywood. [September 15]

For those who have been wondering what happened:
-
After You
Jojo Moyes broke out in the U.S. with her heart-wrenching yet life affirming novel Me Before You. Not much has been said about what this sequel is about, but for anyone who has wondered what Lou did next (as I have), Moyes is giving us the answer. [September 29]

For short story readers looking for strong women:
-
Mothers, Tell Your Daughters
I won’t lie — this started as me judging a book by its cover (and title). But I became more intrigued after reading the description. Stories about mothers and daughters — women who are flawed but strong — are perfect for those times where I need to dip in and out of a book. [October 1]
-
For those who just can’t wait for George R.R. Martin’s next book:
-
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
Available from:Let me be clear — this is NOT the next book in Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire series (the series that HBO’s hit show is based on). It is, however, a prequel of sorts. Set approximately 100 years before Game of Thrones, this compilation of three novellas provides some backstory to the time when the Targaryens ruled the Seven Kingdoms. [October 6]

For those who like their history with a side of sarcasm:
-
Lafayette in the Somewhat United States
Available from:I love Sarah Vowell’s books. She delves into history and brings it to life in a way that somehow combines serious history with humor. This time she brings us the story of the Marquis de Lafayette, the young French aristocrat who was also a trusted friend and officer of George Washington. [October 20]

For those who like the bestsellers:
-
Rogue Lawyer
Available from:I read every John Grisham legal thriller without fail, and I have since the beginning. I look forward to the newest one and always gobble it up in just a couple of days. This time, Grisham’s star is a lawyer who believes everyone deserves a fair trial, even if he has to cheat the system to make sure that happens. [October 20]

Wine Folly: The Essential Guide to Wine
Available from:With all that reading, you may want some help finding the perfect bottle (or bottles — I’m not judging!) of wine to accompany your books. Or, you know, just to wash off the latest tantrum. Presented as infographics, this book makes picking out the perfect wine the easiest thing you’ll do all day! [Steptember 22]
