10 Excellent Picture Books About Opposites
by Melissa Taylor
My youngest daughter used to mix up feeling hungry and feeling full. Understanding the difference between these two words is a fantastic example of why learning about opposites is essential. Opposite words give children the concepts and language to communicate what they feel and see. (Not to mention, they’ll be less likely to starve if they can express when they’re feeling hungry!)
These books introduce readers to important vocabulary words for speaking, listening, reading, writing, and math, which will prepare kids for life.
After reading each picture book, see if you can incorporate the new words into your day’s activities. You might ask, “What is high and what is low?” when you’re at the park or in the bedroom. Or query, “Is the rain inside or outside?” for some silly practice.
